When night falls in Momella…
Visiting the previous farm of the German actor Hardy Krueger
Wolfgang Praegler & Gudrun Mirbach-Praegler
When in 1961 the famous animal hunter movie "Hatari" was shot starring John Wayne and Hardy Krueger, the farm of the German Trappe family was rented as headquarter. In the evening the actors dumped whisky down their throat at the bar. When the movie was finished, Hardy Krueger bought the farm. He managed it as farmer, and then started the first safari lodge. Later he gave it back to the native Africans. Today the Momella Wildlife Lodge is a bit run down, but it still has an extraordinary charm at a gorgeous location. When at sunset Mount Kilimanjaro, 65km east, lights up in the evening sun, trillions of cicadas start their orchestra.
